“ These combined works feature two distinct parts of Australia that have long engaged my fascination - Tasmania and the wilds of the Springbrook area in the Gold Coast hinterland. From the summit of Mt. Wellington to the lonely plains of the interior, many parts of the island seem haunted with memories of the convict era - times when, for many, the place was like an unimaginable hell. Relics of that time still dot the landscape, which seems to be slowly trying to bury them.
Springbrook remains an abiding refuge of tropical profusion, always helping to renew my spirit of creation as I submerge in its splendour, listening and looking in silence to find what I'm searching for in a picture. These works are my response to what I see, rather than attempts at illustrative precision, which has never been my intent. I do, however, remain anchored to what exists, avoiding veering into abstraction. I prefer to convey a sense of place rather than portraying a sense of myself. ”
