Are we the ones who consume or are we that which is consumed? Where do we fit into a physical and metaphorical food chain? Do we succumb or overcome, decompose or intensify, pollute or restore?
Breanna Burke
Consume, curated by Jennifer Lind and Paige Laundy, acts as a brief glimpse into the personal and collective tension within 'consumption.' Consumption itself is multi-faceted and evocative in its language, conjuring themes of medicine, environmental changes, social advocacy and gluttony, among others. Within this exhibition a selection of artists interpret this concept through the mediums of sculpture and wearable art.
Kelsey Tregear
Each artist has honed in on a point of contact from which to extrapolate and digest; resulting in 9 unique perspectives of varying intent, subject matter and meaning. Through deeply emotional sculpture, unpalatable wearables or intriguing infestations, these works come together to allow audiences to engage in their own relationships with consumption. All while offering a small peek into a rich tapestry of Meanjin jewellery and sculpture.
