THE PERSON YOU ARE

With peer pressure, hustle culture, and media influences becoming ever-present in our lives, becoming overwhelmed and losing your self-identity is just a step away. Rates of loneliness among teenagers and young adults are rising, and with it is fear of authenticity and vulnerability. Being your true, genuine self is terrifying when differences are not being celebrated in society, but condemned and shunned. Deep connection with peers and the greater community feels rare, but it does not have to be this way.
The Person You Are has been created to show the artists’ personal manifestation of those negative emotions, to let the audience know that they are not alone with their emotions and that there is hope for all. Standing as a recognition of young people’s struggles and a beacon of understanding, this exhibition invites you to come be part of a community where connection is valued and authenticity is celebrated.
